The Regional Energy Forum (REF) provides knowledge, inspiration and resources to spur growth of energy initiatives and jobs in the region. In this 2015-2016 academic year, the Regional Energy Forum has come full circle.  Our first forum in September took a birds-eye view of the future of energy, and later forums went on to provide attendees with insight on energy careers, innovation, current issues and trends, and more. Now, we'll focus in on some distinct opportunities that have potential in the region.  This topic is a partial follow-on to previous events that ACERC hosted with ConnectSI, the goal of which was to put in place plans for regional energy projects.

The March REF will provide insight into:

  • growth areas for campus and community energy in the near term, such as renewables and efficiency, as well as
  • potential new areas for the region in the longer term, such as waste-to-energy and biomass.

About REFs

The Regional Energy Forum (REF) series will provide inspiration and resources to create energy initiatives and jobs in the region. The REF will bring together local businesses, industry that needs energy and energy companies, educators, trainers, students, employees and other industry facilitators on a regular basis, to develop a core working group and a regional resource center to help meet the challenges of the energy industry:

  1. To determine basic/base skills/knowledge all employees should have, and develop areas of study, tracks for students from community college to university, and open job placement channels based on feedback.

  2. To determine common/specialized areas of research/collaboration interest, and to find faculty matches.  More tasks will emerge as the group evolves.

The Regional Energy Forum provides regular industry/student/faculty networking events with keynote speakers. These events are free and open to the public, and a box lunch is provded for those who register. Please join the SIU Energy Group on LinkedIn for online discussions regarding the forum, or follow @SIUEnergy on Twitter.
